The star of The Dark Knight Rises – Batman himself – recently paid a visit to those who were killed in the cinema shooting during a screening of the movie in Aurora, Colorado.
Bale, who put on the black suit for the third and last Batman franchise, was accompanied by his wife Sandra Blazic as he mourned with the families of the victims. The pair also visited those who were still in the hospital with their injuries, including Carey Rottman, who was shot in the leg.
Hospital chief Bill Voloch said that the visit was ‘good for the patients’ and that it would hopefully be ‘therapeutic for them’. He added: “The patients were really happy to meet Bale. They are obviously big fans of his movies – they wanted to see Batman.” He also said that the entire hospital staff also ‘appreciated’ the actor’s visit.
The actor also spent time with doctors and the police.
The trip to Colorado was unexpected, making it feel all the more genuine for the families of the victims of the shooting. According to a Warner Brothers spokeswoman, the visit was not organized by the film studio and was Bale’s personal idea. “Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers.”
The massacre, which left 12 people dead and 58 others injured, occurred during a midnight screening of Bale’s latest film.
