A new Channel 5 documentary entitled Celebs on Benefits: Claim to Fame, will feature stars like Bruce Jones and Lisa Appleton who now depend on state benefits.
Bruce Jones, a former Coronation Street star, was axed from the ITV soap in 2007 due to alcohol problems. He is expected to talk about his struggles after losing his job and how he lost his £1million fortune. In May 2010, he lost his house was repossessed by the bank to pay his large debts. He then appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2013.
Ex Big Brother sta Lisa Appleton will also be featured on the special, one-off show where she will say: "Thousands of people on benefits live like this every day and they shouldn't have to.”
"Anyone who thinks people on benefits are sponging off the state and have an easy life should think again.
"I've always worked hard and now it's as if I'm being punished for having been on telly."
Teasing the show, Channel 5 said: "A look at the lives of former stars and professional high fliers who now live on the poverty line. The programme features Bruce Jones who played Les Battersby in Coronation Street, whose divorce and struggle with the booze has left him skint.
"Former Big Brother contestant Lisa talks of her 15 minutes of fame but how she now lives below the breadline."
