Bridge collapses into river in Washington

A US road bridge has collapsed into the Skagit River in Washington

A section of a bridge has collapsed, with it falling into the Skagit River in the American state of Washington.

Emergency services attended the scene, and officials have said there were three individuals who were injured but that nobody had died from the incident.

 

It is understood a number of vehicles and drivers fell into the river as a result of the bridge collapsing on Thursday, 23rd May, it has been reported.

It is believed that the three people were taken to hospital.

Reportedly, it was part of the highway Interstate 5 which plunged into the river Skagit. It is believed that it was a four-lane road bridge.

The bridge, which is located close to Mount Vernon, lies between Seattle and Vancouver. It is not known what may have caused the road bridge to collapse as of time of press.

The Skagit River is well over 100miles long.
