Office star Ricky Gervais has said that he wants the hit comedy to become a Broadway show.

The writer/performer explained to fans: "It would be a dream come true. I would love to do it."

He added: "We'd need to get a theatre and I wonder if enough people have heard of me."

Gervais, 42, is currently working on a US adaptation of the hit British sit com with "Friends" and "ER" producers NBC.

He commented: "NBC chose a much younger, more handsome guy for their show than me. But I'm really excited about seeing the show."

Gervais recently became the first British actor to win a comedy award at the US Golden Globes.
