Birmingham City Football Club owner Carson Yeung has been convicted of money laundering by a Hong Kong court on Monday and was handed a six-year prison term.
The 54-year-old Blues owner, was found guilty on five charges after it was discovered that £55million passed through his bank accounts between 2001 and 2007.
He was charged in 2001 just two years after he became the City’s majority shareholder. No information is available as to whether he will appeal against the length of the jail term.
Judge Douglas Yau said: "The sentence must include an element of deterrence to discourage those who are in a position to exploit the system."
