Following an impressive debut, which attracted 3.5million viewers earlier this month, BBC Two has commissioned a second series for the crime thriller, The Fall, before the first season has ended.
The series is BBC Two’s highest rated drama launch in nearly eight years.
The series is about a detective, played by actress Gillian Anderson, hunting a serial killer in Belfast, played by Jamie Dornan.
BBC drama controller Ben Stephenson said: “The Fall has proved both a critical and ratings hit for BBC2 and another reminder of the resurgence of drama on the channel.
“With more of Allan Cubitt's intricate and thrilling plot revelations yet to unfold through the captivating performances of Gillian and Jamie, a second series is a must.”
According to sources, Gillian Anderson, together with other core cast members, has agreed to do the second season.
Part of the agreement, TVwise found out, is that Anderson will become executive producer alongside Allan Cubitt, Stephen Wright, Patrick Irwin, and Justin-Thomson-Glover.
The source told TVwise: “The only hold up may be securing a window of availability for Gillian, who stars in NBC’s drama series’ Crisis and Hannibal, and Archie Panjabi, who is a series regular on the recently renewed CBS series The Good Wife.”
