‘Alone in Antarctica’ tours in UK theaters in autumn 2012

Felicity Aston, the first woman to cross Antarctica without aid, brings her story to UK theaters ..

In January 2012, Felicity Aston, a trained Physicist and Meteorologist, officially became the first ever woman in history to ski across Antarctica without aid or companion.

 

For almost two months, Aston braved extremely dangerous terrain and temperature of 40 degrees, dragging supplies that weighed 85kg across the world’s coldest continent. The same feat was achieved by two men who used kite-power to complete the journey. 

 

Antarctica is the only continent on Earth that is covered by ice all year round. With a temperature of 40 degrees, the continent cannot sustain life. 

 

She said about her challenging but wonderful journey: “I discovered that we, as human beings, are capable of incredible tenacity and that as long as we keep ourselves moving forward, the rest will take care of itself.”
