Queen Vic landlord Alfie Moon is to bounce back from his current troubles by becoming a Del Boy-style wheeler dealer.
But the upturn in his fortunes only comes about after things get blacker for the cheeky chappie.
Alfie has been down on his luck recently, with love-of-his-life Kat doing a runner after turning into an alcoholic . But things will get even worse when he is turfed out of the Queen Vic by Albert Square's original bad boy Dirty Den.
But new EastEnders producer Kathleen Hutchison has gone on record to say that Den, along with Walford's other gangster and Alfie's arch enemy Andy Hunter, would be eaten alive by real life East End villains.
And the man coming to show them how it should be done is the one who offers Alfie a way out.
Johnny Allen is on his way in and he will offer the forlorn former landlord a second chance working in the market.
By then Johnny, who will be played Billy Murray - The Bill's Don Beech - will have begun to build his own Albert Square empire by buying up properties and businesses all over the place.
"Alfie has a lot of dark storylines around Christmas. Kat has gone and he is heartbroken when he loses the pub," an EastEnders insider told The Sun
The source added: "But next year, fans will start to see Alfie back to his cheeky chappie ways.
"He will start working for Jonny Allen, who sets him up with a market stall.
"Alfie starts selling knock-off gear and gets himself into trouble with the police and punters who believe they have been ripped off. But like Del Boy, Alfie is convinced this will make his fortune."
