The 'Jonathan Creek' star has welcomed his first child, it has been confirmed.

Comedian Davies, 43, broke the news on Twitter saying his wife, Kate Maskell, had given birth to a healthy baby girl.

He said: "Thanks everyone, mother and baby doing well.

"I have changed nappies already. My daughter, I notice, is praised for passing wind, unlike her dad."

The football fan later joked he was contemplating his daughter's "prospects of playing for Arsenal Ladies".

Keen Twitter user and fellow 'QI' star Stephen Fry offered his congratulations via a tweet saying: "Yay! alandavies1 is a proud papa.

"A girl cub. Little Susie. I'm already knitting bootees. But not pink."
