Britain could be set for white Christmas as 36 days of snow has been forecasted with harsh temperature lows of -16C. Weather experts say that its due on the coldest Atlantic temperatures since records began 80 years ago.
AccuWeather meteorologist Tyler Roys said: "We'll see full-on cold spells.
"Northern England faces colder-than-normal periods, some of which could affect southern England, and Scotland is forecast a colder than normal winter.
"Given recent past winters' minimum temperatures of -8C to -21C, lows of that level are possible this winter."
"The Atlantic is very cold off the coast of Britain, which will cool weather systems as they move to in. Cold air is also expected from the Arctic."
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes said that there’s a huge possibility that the temperature will fall to -16C, the coldest since December 2010. A Ladbrokes spokesman said: "The mercury looks like dropping as fast as the odds in a brutal winter."
The winter chill is expected to affect 1,500-mile wide swathe of the North Atlantic starting 500 miles west of Britain.
The US Government's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather department said: "The area of ocean had its coldest January to August in at least 80 years of records."
