Yoko Ono and son Sean Lennon have called on aspiring filmmakers to create video advertisements to help convince New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, to reject controversial proposal of gas drilling in the state. Critics claim that such proposals can put water supplies of nearby areas in great danger due to dangerous chemicals.
The mother and son team launched the competition on Monday via their website, ArtistsAgainstFracking.com and urged fans to create creative, compelling 30-second TV commercials and short videos.
They said: “New York's Gov. Cuomo recently delayed until February a decision on whether to allow fracking for gas in the state. To help inform the Governor and the public, Artists Against Fracking announces the DontFrackNY video contest. Help us make the case in the most compelling and moving way.”
Yoko and Sean are expected to pick one winner in each category. It is thought that the winning ads will be shown on TV screens across New York City.
On the other hand, lucky filmmakers will be invited to have lunch with John Lennon’s family, according to reports. Interested parties may send in their entries until January 20th.
Artists Against Fracking group is supported by some of the big names in the entertainment industry which includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Julianne More, Lady Gaga, and Mark Ruffalo.
