One act forced to change their name due to charity pressure...

X Factor girlband Rhythmix have been forced to change their name following pressure from a children's charity. 

The girls, who are mentored by N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos, announced the news in a statement, which read:

"At the request of the charity Rhythmix, the members of the girl group Rhythmix have decided to change their name, a decision which has the support of Syco and TalkbackTHAMES.

"The group's new name will be announced in due course."

The show had tried to trademark the name Rhythmix in Europe, when they encountered problems due to a charity with the same name.

The charity's chief executive, Mark Davyd wrote an open letter to Simon Cowell about the situation, asking him to change the band's name:

"We don't believe that you are unaware of the way your own company is acting.

"We are personally asking you to sort this problem out in the quickest and simplest way: Just change the name."

Earlier this month, Davyd told The Mirror about a previous letter he sent to the programme's bosses:

"The first reply from X Factor was basically, 'We don't care'. Maybe I'm naive but I work in an area where I expect people to do the right thing.

"No-one would call a band Nordoff Robbins or Shelter. Now I accept that we are not as big as those organisations but we put on concerts and put out CDs and it's just not appropriate."
