Iain Duncan Smith, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, has recently had to muster up a quick response to rants which came from protestors at a recent conference in Edinburgh.
While on his trip to Scotland, Mr. Duncan Smith gave a speech which was interrupted by hecklers.
Before he could begin to talk about the topic of welfare and reform, some of the people against the idea of cuts made their voices heard. This included Willie Black according to reports, as well as two other protesters whose correct names have not been revealed.
Mr. Black went as far to say that Mr. Duncan Smith was a “rat bag”. The man, believed to be a left-wing follower, said his bit before the Work and Pensions Secretary continued with his speech.
In response to the heckle, Mr. Duncan Smith said aloud to the crowd that it was nice to be greeted warmly.
However, he did not make it through his speech for too long before there were more interruptions – this time coming from two people listening to the MP’s words.
There has been much debate over the matter of social housing and cuts recently. This relates to households which may have a spare bedroom and benefits – referred to by many as the ‘bedroom tax’.
The Tory MP was originally born in Scotland. He served with the Scots Guards in the 1970s and 1980s before becoming a member of the Conservative party. After becoming an MP in the early 1990s, Mr. Duncan Smith took over from William Hague in 2001.
