The mother-in-law of golfing ace Tiger Woods has been rushed to a hospital, it has been reported.

Paramedics tended 57-year-old Barbro Holmberg after she was suffering with acute stomach pains in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Holmberg, the mother of Woods' wife Elin, is a well known politician in Sweden.

Hospital spokesman confirmed that Holmberg had been admitted and said her condition was not serious.

Initially it was not know who the blonde haired woman was seen leaving Woods' Florida residence on a stretcher, sparking further media attention.

The champion golfer has recently been subject to intense scrutiny after he crashed his car into a fire hydrant and tree near his home.

Shortly after a flurry of women claiming they have had affairs with Woods emerged. He has since apologised, saying: "I regret those transgressions with all of my heart."
