NASA is funding a new research project that aims to turn human waste into food and other materials to solve the issue of food provision for long-term space travel.
The study, which is headed by Mark Blenner from Clemson University, South Carolina, is called Synthetic Biology for Recycling Human Waste into Food, Nutraceuticals, and Materials: Closing the Loop for Long-Term Space Travel.
The study is one of the newest university-led projects funded by NASA. There are eight Early Career Faculty proposals in total, including studies into solar power and manned mission to Mars.

New Blackberry Smartphone
Reports claim that Blackberry prepares a new smartphone that will run on Google’s Android operating system and comes with a full QWERTY keyboard.
Blackberry, a Canadian manufacturer that once ruled the smartphone roost with its business-focused devices, is coming back with its newest smartphone.
According to a newly leaked image, the company’s newest smartphone comes with a full QWERTY keyboard and runs on Google Android’s operating system. This means that users will have access to the millions of apps on the Google Play Store.
The company’s most recent flagship had the ability to load Android apps but it required users to go through Amazon’s app store. In addition, the selection available was long way short of the full Android line up.
Information as to when the new smartphone will be released or how much would it cost is yet to be announced.
