Forbes has named Madonna the world’s highest paid musician this year. She has earned $125 million (£77m) from June 2012 to June 2013. She collected the money through her MDNA world tour, merchandise sales, a clothing line, and a brand of perfume.
The second spot belong to Lady Gaga who earned £49m in the same period. She made most of her money through her Born This Way Ball tour. She had to cancel some dates after she injured her hip, denting her income somewhat.
Meanwhile, male musicians Bon Jovi, Toby Keith, and Coldplay grabbed the third, fourth, and fifth spots, respectively. Hip Hop artist Dr Dre, who was the number one on the same list last year dropped to 20th place this year. Another hip-hop artist, Sean “Diddy” Combs secured the 11th spot. Jay Z, on the other hand, is in 18th spot.
Forbes considers ticket sales, royalties for recorded music and publishing, merchandise sales, endorsement deals, and other business ventures in putting together this list. It also uses data from Pollstar, the RIAA, Nielsen SoundScan, managers, lawyers, and artists.
