Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, and HTC Vive are going to battle it out for your money and 2016 is the year we’ll see if virtual reality is indeed the gaming’s next big thing.
Virtual reality has been promised as gaming’s next big thing for ages. For years, Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, and the HTC Vive have been developing devices, going head to head with the aim to reign supreme in this field. While gamers get excited, few details have been released about these devices. Here’s what we know so far:
Playstation VR
There is no doubt that Sony’s Playstation VR is a gaming heavyweight right from the get-go. Although details about the firm’s brand new headset have been closely guarded, reports confirm that it is compatible with the PS4. Experts predict that it will be sold for the same price as an Xbox One or PS4 by the summer. Sony’s boss Kaz Hirai said that there are more than a hundred games in development for the headset.
HTC Vive
HTC Vive is the product of Taiwanese phone company HTC and the American company Valve partnership. The latter run the Steam gaming service. The release date of its device will be on April and it promises gamers with “full room experience.” The tag price is yet to be announced but experts predict that it will be the most expensive of the three machines.
Oculus Rift
This is the brainchild of colourful entrepreneur Palmer Luckey and Facebook bought the company behind the design in 2014. The device costs £499 and will come with two games, EVE Valkyrie and platform game Lucky’s Tale. The first batch of the Oculus Rift has been sold out in a few hours after going on pre-sale. The devices are expected to be delivered in March.
