Samsung could be spelling the end of rock ‘n’ roll with its virtual reality gigs.
The tech giant recently held a gig where audience wore VR goggles to watch a band playing at a totally different location.
The VR gig featured a band called “Years and Years” who specialise in a gentle form of electro. Following the gig, the band described the experience as “buzzing.”
"The show was like nothing we have done before," the band said in a statement.
"The VR element adds a totally new dimension for us as performers and for those watching.
"We’re proud to be the first artists to offer such a unique and special, immersive experience to our fans."
For the virtual gig, Samsung invited fans in a different location where they were given the option to move around the room, even taking up a position on stage with the performers.
David Lowes, chief marketing officer at Samsung Electronics Europe, added: “Last night’s collaboration gave music fans across Europe a taste of how a smartphone and VR can transform the art of the live performance - and the audience’s experience of it.
"Years and Years share our passion for progress and innovation and we loved working with them to use our technology to bring this one-of-a-kind experience to life.”
