Veteran rocker Bruce Springsteen bags 10th UK No 1 album

Bruce Springsteen’s new album, High Hopes, went straight to the top this week, dethroning Ellie Goulding.

Veteran rocker Bruce Springsteen has successfully made history after he racked up his 10th UK number one album. High Hopes went straight to the top this week dethroning Ellie Goulding. 

 

Other artists who have made the same achievement include U2 and The Rolling Stones. Meanwhile The Beatles still holds the record with 15 album top spots while pop star Madonna has 12 and Elvis Presley and Robbie Williams have 11 each. 

 

The album, which was described as the best "unreleased material from the past decade" features contributions from E-Street Band members Danny Federici and Clarence Clemons and guests including Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello. 

 

Although it’s the only new entry on the UK chart, the latest offering from The Boss went straight ahead to number one. Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon dropped to number two and Beyonce’s self-titled album came in third place. 

 

Meanwhile, the singles chart is still dominated by Pharrell Williams who’s track Happy is on its third week at the top. The gospel-inspired feel-good anthem was also nominated for an Oscar last week thanks to its inclusion on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. So far, it had sold more than 500,000 copies in the UK alone. 

 

There are also no new entries on the top four singles. Pitbull and Kesha’s Timber is still in second place, followed by Avicii’s Hey Brother and Jason Derulo’s Trumpets.
