Veteran broadcaster Sir David Frost dies at 74

Sir David Frost’s family have confirmed the news in a statement adding that they need privacy at this difficult time.

Veteran broadcaster Sir David Frost has died at the age of 74. His family have released a statement saying he was aboard the Queen Elizabeth on Saturday night where he was scheduled to deliver a speech.

A statement said: "His family are devastated and ask for privacy at this difficult time. A family funeral will be held in the near future and details of a memorial service will be announced in due course."

Sir David, whose career spanned daytime television presenting, comedy writing, and journalism, was born in Kent and went to Cambridge University. He then started a career in television that lasted for over six decade. 

Internationally, Sir David will be most likely remembered for his interviews with former US President Richard Nixon.

Prime Minister David Cameron said that Sir David made a huge impact on television. He also described the broadcaster as “an extraordinary man, with charm, wit, talent, intelligence and warmth in equal measure.”

He added: "The Nixon interviews were among the great broadcast moments - but there were many other brilliant interviews. He could be - and certainly was with me - both a friend and a fearsome interviewer."
