Tim Lambesis, the frontman of the metal band As I Lay Dying, has pleaded guilty over a plot to murder his estranged wife. The 32-year-old singer, who initially denied the charge, could face nine years in prison for the attempted contract killing.
Lambesis, who formed the band in San Diego in 2000, has sold more than one million albums. The band released a total of six albums including An Ocean Between Us, which reached number eight in America’s Billboard charts.
The singer is now out on $2million bail but is scheduled for sentencing on May 2 in Vista Superior Court, California.
According to police report, Lambesis talked about his desire to make his wife, Meggan, disappear with a personal trainer at his gym. He claimed that Meggan had restricted his visits with their three adopted children after they have separated in September 2012. He then hired a hitman, who turned out to be an undercover agent, to kill his wife. He gave the “hired killer” over $1,000 and his wife’s address together with the front door security code.
He was arrested in May 2013. The undercover agent, San Diego County Sheriff’s Officer Howard Bradley, testified last year. He said that when he asked Lambesis if he wanted his wife killed, the singer answered: “Yes, I do.”
