Brazilian officials have confiscated 39kg of caramel spread called dulce de leche from Uruguay’s football team as it arrived in Brazil for the World Cup.
The spread, which is extremely popular in Uruguay is made with milk and caramel in appearance. Due to its contents the Brazilian authorities said that it needed sanitary documentation. Unfortunately for the Uruguay team, they didn't have it so the sweet treat was seized.
Uruguay’s shock 3-1 defeat to Costa Rica has been blamed by some fans on the lack of dulce de leche.
Meanwhile, an official with the Brazilian agriculture department told Reuters that Uruguay team can get the spread as soon as they can produce the necessary documents.
"Or they can pick it up on their way out of Brazil," the official added.
