UK's return to work affected as more storms and floods strike

Forecasters have warned exposed areas on the southern coast of the UK could see fresh rounds of flooding.

The floods in the UK are showing no signs of slowing down. After massive floods and transport disruption across the country for the past week, dozens of flood warning are still in place.

As of Monday, huge waves are beginning to batter the southern coast of the UK. Meanwhile, waves of up to 27ft have been recently recorded off Land’s End, Cornwall.

The Met Office said: "The public should be aware of the dangers of waves crashing onshore and over-topping shore lines and sea fronts.”

In addition, there are 17 flood warnings in place for Scotland along with a further 15 flood alerts. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of winds for Northern Ireland.

The Met Office added that wave heights of 7-10m in parts of Wales, western Scotland, and south-west England and 3-7m in much of the English Channel and Irish Sea could be generated.

In Aberystwyth, seafront student flats have been evacuated while travel by road and rail is being hit.

All of this has hindered thousands of people who are returning to work after the Christmas break.
