According to numerous UK weather reports, the summer heatwave is expected to continue all week with London experiencing sweltering temperatures of up to 27C. Other parts of the UK will be as warm as the South of France and may see temperatures in the mid 20s.
However, the great weather will last only until the weekend with forecasters saying rain showers are expected this weekend.
Meanwhile, it’s a completely different story for North West Scotland and Northern Ireland, which can expect a lower pressure front from Tuesday. For this reason, spectators at the Glasgow Commonweatlh Games were warned to prepare for more unsettled weather.
Forecaster Helen Waite said: "It's not going to be too bad, but not a heatwave. Today most places are sunny and dry but it's a bit cloudier than it has been in previous days, especially in southern areas.
"Temperatures are going up to 26-27 degrees and there still is plenty of sunny spells, it still is above average and on the warm side.
"In the north of the UK showers and a band of rain will affect Northern Ireland and Scotland, with a bit of rain in Glasgow and for the east of Scotland quite a lot of showers breaking out, some quite heavy with the possibility of it being thundery."
From Tuesday she added: "Most of the UK is going to be quite sunny, plenty of sunny spells though with isolated showers and not as hot. In the south east temperatures will be on the warm side, in the mid 20s maybe up to 27 degrees for a few days in London.
"The exception from that, is from Tuesday we are going to get a low pressure moving into the north of the UK, that will bring a band of rain and showers to north west Scotland and Northern Ireland.
"While tomorrow might be quite nice, there is a greater risk of cloud and outbreaks of showers from time to time from Tuesday.
"In the short term there is nothing signalling for a prolonged hot spell. It will be more unsettled towards the end of the week when the low pressure moves across the country.
"Most of the weather up to the north west will be dry sunny spells interspersed with showers but drier towards the south east with the possibility of showers."
