'Twilight' heartthrob Robert Pattinson is set to plat Kurt Cobain in an upcoming biopic of the late singer's life and career.
The 23-year-old has reportedly been involved in several discussions with the late Nirvana rockerÂ’s widow Courtney Love regarding the role.
Love is aiding Universal Pictures with the filmÂ’s production, and has been granted the power to confirm certain aspects of the production including the actors and script.
A source told The Sun: “This is a big money deal for Courtney. She has agreed to the film on condition that she gets to decide the main aspects of the project including director, casting, screenplay and music.
"Robert has been calling and emailing her non-stop. She has been a bit wound up by his manners, but he is her number one choice to play Kurt.”
Love has expressed her hopes that Scarlett Johansson will play her. Johansson is close friends with Courtney and KurtÂ’s daughter Frances Bean, 17, and has released two albums of her own.
Director David Fincher, who has helmed dark classics like 'Fight Club' and 'Se7en' as well as the recent multiple Oscar nominee 'The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button', will direct the production, which has the tentative title 'All Apologies'.
Kurt and Courtney married in Hawaii in February 1992. Frances Bean born in August of the same year.
Cobain battled drug addiction and depression at the height of Nirvana's success, and committed suicide by shooting himself on April 8 1994. His death has been the subject of fierce debate; with documentaries such as Nick Broomfield's 'Kurt and Courtney' suggesting that the 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' star may have actually been murdered.
Following Nirvana's demise, drummer Dave Grohl went on to form Foo Fighters and Them Crooked Vultures while bass player Krist Novoselic played in numerous other groups. Love received rave reviews for her acting performance in 'The People vs. Larry Flint'.
