BBC sports presenter Clare Balding has received news that her treatment for thyroid cancer has been successful.

The former jockey and journalist wrote on her website: “I received the results from my post-treatment scan and it looks as if the radioactive iodine has done its job.

"There are no signs of the thyroid cancer having spread anywhere else so all is looking happy and rosy."

The 38-year-old TV presenter had her thyroid gland and a cyst removed earlier this year.

Balding said she was "very grateful" for the support she received from other cancer patients who had got in touch, and that now she ready to get back to work.

The presenter stated: "I can't tell you how much this helped me get through the treatment process. Now it's full steam ahead with a busy summer of work."

Thyroid cancer is a rare form of the disease that affects around 1,750 people each year in Britain.

Symptoms include a swollen lump in the neck, a hoarse voice, a sore throat and difficulty swallowing that rarely recovers.

Balding previously said that she spotted a lump on her throat while watching herself on TV over Christmas.
