Triskaidekaphobia is a fear of the number 13 that makes up to 40per cent of adults change their plans to avoid unfortunate events. Superstitious Brits admit to rescheduling an important meeting, not making any big purchase, and staying clear of mirrors due to the fear of meeting an accident.
The research, carried out by hotel chain Travelodge, also revealed that 68per cent of adults are also superstitious about Friday 13th that they make gesture to stay away from bad luck including saying good morning to a magpie or throwing salt over their shoulder.
Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge Spokeswoman, said: “Our research shows that Britons certainly believe in the power of numbers and will use their lucky number to get ahead in life and avoid the number 13 at all costs.”
“Our hotel team in our new Bicester Travelodge have recently been trained on the importance of numbers for Chinese customers who are staying over whilst visiting Bicester Village.
“As Chinese guests should never be given a room on the fourth floor of the hotel or a room with the number four in it because in Mandarin the number four sounds too similar to the word death.”
