Tributes pour in as Bob Hoskins dies at 71

Legendary British actor famed for his work on Mona Lisa and Who Framed Roger Rabbit died after a battle with pneumonia

Bob Hoskins, the beloved British character actor, has died following a battle with pneumonia. He was 71. 

 

A statement by the film legend's family read: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Bob.

 

"Bob died peacefully in hospital last night, surrounded by family, following a bout of pneumonia.

 

"We ask that you respect our privacy during this time and thank you for your messages of love and support."

 

Hoskins was famed for his career that spanned 40 years and included works as diverse as mob thriller The Long Good Friday, animation/live-action hybrid Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Steven Spielberg's Hook in which he held his own alongside Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams.

 

The news comes two years after Hoskins retired due to the effects of Parkinson's Disease.
