Toyota to recall 2.7m cars over steering or water pump problems

The latest recall of cars is a huge blow to Toyota’s reputation

Hundreds of Toyota owners in Japan have complained about their car’s problems related to steering and the water pump. Although there were no reported injuries or accidents relating to these problems, car giant Toyota has decided to recall 2.7million cars, 75,000 of which are understood to be from Britain.

In the UK, certain Avensis and Corolla models manufactured from July 2011 to March 2009 will be part of the latest recall. It also includes some Prius models from July 2003 to April 2009.

The worst case scenario is that the steering problem could lead drivers to lose control of the vehicle, while the water pump problem could make a car inoperable.

This isn’t the first time Toyota has issued a huge global recall.

Just last month, over 7million vehicles worldwide, which includes popular Camry and Corolla models that were recalled due to a possible fire risk being linked with faulty electric windows.

And earlier this year, the company added two more models to the 2009 recall, which involved cars with alleged mats being trapped under the accelerator.

This problem was supposedly linked with some cases of death.
