Tottenham fire football manager Andre Villas-Boas

Following Sunday’s 5-0 Premier League thrashing by Liverpool, Tottenham has sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Tottenham’s manager Andre Villas-Boas was fired after Sunday’s dramatic 5-0 loss, which is the club’s worst at White Hart Lane in 16 years.

Spurs have released a statement saying that the decision to terminate the manager’s service was a mutual decision. It read: "The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach Andre Villas-Boas for the termination of his services.

"The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties.

"We wish Andre well for the future. We shall make a further announcement in due course."

Former Chelsea boss Villas-Boas took over at Tottenham in July 2012. The 36-year-old manager will be replaced by technical co-ordinator Tim Sherwood whose first job will be to take charge of the Capital One Cup tie against West Ham on Wednesday.

Vilass-Boas won 53.7% of his league games in charge. However, the manager had come under extreme pressure in recent weeks as his side struggled to keep pace with the top four in the league.

Previously, the manager said he would not resign as he was not a quitter. However, his future was taken out of his hands when he was summoned to a meeting with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
