You may not be Mr. Muscle or Kim Woodburn from ‘How Clean Is Your House?’, but we should all do a little spring cleaning each year. So, what’s the cheapest way to clear away the cobwebs from winter in your home? Read on to find out with our Top 10 Cheap Spring Cleaning Tips…
.Window Cleaning: Add a little vinegar to warm water and this will make your windows shine like new! Using sheets of old newspaper to rub the mixture off should work. Vinegar is one cheap product that can be used for cleaning, not just for your fish and chips!
.Washing Clothes: Do you realise how much time and money we spend washing clothes every year? Too much we say! With spring on the way, hang your washing outside to dry. If you spend your hard-earned cash, and your days, in the laundrette, then try this cost-effective drying method.
.Lime Scale: Sometimes when we need a cup of tea, the kettle can be lined with lime scale. This doesn’t bode very well when guests visit for a cuppa! So, to alleviate the problem, simply add one part brown vinegar to two parts hot water and leave in your kettle for 50 minutes. Then, rid your kettle of the cleaning mixture, add water and put it on to boil to remove any leftover lime scale.
.Laundry: This tip is simple; put your dirty laundry in the laundry basket to keep your house clean! It’s on our Top 10 Cheap Spring Cleaning Tips list because it costs you nothing. And it has immediate effects, because by having a de-cluttered bedroom or bathroom floor, it leaves the air in your house smelling much fresher.
.Washing Dishes: Nobody likes washing up, but if you want to save a few pounds here and there then why not resort to washing up in bulk. This is also a preferred method than using a dish washer (if you have one). It can not only help you save on your water bill, but it is also greener.
.Oven Cleaning: You can save money this spring by not buying as many oven cleaning products - simply put food in a container when using your oven. For example, an oven tray can catch melting cheese off your pizza so it won’t land at the bottom of your oven and you won’t have to clean it. Prevention is the best way we say!
.Switching Things Off: This spring reduce the amount of money you spend on energy by turning things off when you are finished with them. Instead of leaving something out and plugged in, tidy it away. This relates to switching the TV off instead of leaving it on standby, which we are all probably guilty of doing.
.Bathrooms: There are many different products when it comes to cleaning your toilet and your bathroom, but one great cleaning tip worth knowing is that if you apply baking soda to half a lemon it will help remove grime!
.Saving Water: As well as being greener, this could save you money every year! Being clean can mean using a fair bit of water, but if you reduce the amount of times you flush the toilet for example (as in don’t flush it just because you’ve blown your nose and put the tissue in the toilet) you’re on the right track. Other ways could involve washing dirty dishes up in one sitting rather than in stages.
.Bins: Baking soda is a great and affordable way to get rid of smells in your bin. Rather than emptying your bin because there is a funny odour this spring, simply sprinkle some baking soda in.
