Wimbledon 2016 is here and 256 of the world’s best tennis players convene at the All England Club dreaming of singles glory.
One of them is the seemingly unstoppable Novak Djokovic who has won the three other Grand Slam titles – US Open, the Australian Open, and the French Open. He is the third man in history to hold all four of the Grand Slams at the same time.
Andy Murray, who famously beat Djokovic in straight sets in 2013, is back with his coach Ivan Lendl, who helped him achieve his previous victories.
Meanwhile, it is uncertain if Serena Williams will qualify for the women’s title after suffering a series of shock defeats since chalking up her 21st at Wimbledon last year. She was beaten by Roberta Vinci, Angelique Keber and Garbine Muguruza over the past 12 months.
Meanwhile, a grand total of 15 Brits are joining the event this year. British number one Johanna Konta is seeded 16th and will fancy her chances of getting the second to the second week.
Heather Watson and Naomi Broady have also qualified by right while former British number one Laura Robson got a wildcard as she continues her long battle back from injury.
The event is expected to be attended by special guests. In the past, Prince William and Kate Middleton made an appearance in support of Andy Murray. Actors Hugh Grant, Helena Bonham-Carter, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Piven, Bradley Cooper and Sacha Baron Cohen were all in the crowd last year.
