A video, which was posted online, has caused alarm as it appears to show a tiger on the loose near Disneyland Paris. A major police operation has been launched to capture the animal.
Initial reports suggested that the tiger escaped a circus. Later in the day, a local authority confirmed that the circus may have dumped the animal as they left town.
Frederic Edelstein, head of France's Pinder Circus, said: "In this case, its instinct would be to chase after its prey."
"If you see it coming towards you, make as much noise as you can in order to frighten it. If this doesn't work, you should start waving your arms, but without moving away, or it will only move closer.
"The main worry is that it starts to get hungry. In this case it could attack its prey, be that a dog, a cow or a goat. It is most likely that it will find its way to a farm where its predatory instincts will take over."
Meanwhile, Cedric Tartaud-Gineste from the town hall said that a security cordon was set up around a wooded area.
