The Cato Institute has made a list of the 90 most miserable countries in the world with Venezuela topping the list.
Although the country has never failed to fascinate tourists, US think tank The Cato Institute said that life can be pretty depressing for people who actually live there. Receiving the highest rating of 79.4, the main reason for depression was the high rate of inflation.
Venezuela was followed by Iran, Serbia, and Argentina. Jamaica came in close with a 42.3 rating.
The countries were rated by adding unemployment to the lending and inflation rates and subtracting the percentage change in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. The data was also based on information from the Economist Intelligence Unit and other experts.
The United Kingdom ranked 62 on the list after it received a 12.9 score. The United States was number 71. In UK, the main problem was listed as unemployment. Other factors considered include inflation, interest rates, and real GDP growth.
