A recent survey, which was conducted to identify the most unpleasant modern day life experiences, revealed that buying a home is the most stressful experience for a lot of people. This is due to high interest rates, increasing house prices, unhelpful staff and fears of imminent collapse.
The survey found that a large percentage of adults said that dabbling in the housing market is more stressful than divorce, bankruptcy, and even bereavement.
Aside from interest rates and increasing house prices, respondents said that dealing with solicitors and paperwork for weeks on end add to the unpleasantness.
Meanwhile, selling a house is also considered an unpleasant experience and it ranked higher than losing a job, becoming a parent, or planning a wedding.
Over a quarter said that not getting updates from agents trying to sell their homes and being unable to get hold of solicitors during office hours make the experience a major source of stress.
A spokesman for EstatesDirect.com, which commissioned the research, said: 'The results show just how gruelling the process is regarded and clearly it’s viewed among the most stressful events we encounter in modern life.'
