James Morton, one of ‘British Bake Off’s’ contestants, is said to be one of the many reasons why the show is attracting millions of viewers.
The 21-year-old medical student, who usually sports glasses and a jumper, is perceived as an unlikely heart-throb. However, viewers, especially women, seem to be drawn to his appeal.
Critics and viewers agree that Morton is a surprise star, with reports confirming he has helped attract 4.5 million viewers for the show’s third episode.
With this number, BBC1’s medical drama Holby City just won 350,000 more viewers.
For last week’s episode contestants were tasked to make three tarts - a French-style tartetatin, treacle tart, and ‘show-stopper’ fruit tart.
Morton, who was crowned “star baker” impressed the judges with a perfect treacle tart and macaroon-topped rose, raspberry and lychee tart, which earned him better chances of winning the series.
But it wasn’t just his great baking skills that attracted female attention, as viewers took to Twitter to show their love for Morton’s woolen jumpers that he has worn on the series.
His baking style and his choice of wardrobe were discussed on social networking sites by the show’s viewers.
The contestant also got the nod from the fashion industry. Style magazine told the Mail Online: “Well done James. We think your tarts look like fashion on a plate! (and we love your tank top and glasses too!)”
