The Empire strikes it rich

The new Star Wars DVD box set has netted more than 60 million in its first week.

George Lucas will need Yoda's help to count all his money after global sales of his new DVD box set topped 60 million.

The original trilogy went on sale in the UK on Monday for the first time on DVD.

Worldwide sales have already reached $115 million as fans flock to the shops to get their hands on the collectors' edition classics.

A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi have been digitally remastered and touched up with a few of Lucas' technological enhancements.

The box set also features an extras DVD with never before seen footage, star interviews and a sneaky peak at the third prequel, Revenge Of The Sith.

This week Lucas said that he wouldn't be making any more Stars Wars films after Episode III.

Some fans had been hoping that he might go on to make episodes VII, VIII and IX - the sequels to the original hit trilogy.

Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith is due for cinema release next year.
