Tesco withdraws frozen meatloaf as part of horsemeat scandal
The huge supermarket firm took its meatloaf product from shelves after traces of horsemeat were found

Tesco is back in the media spotlight as the latest case in the horsemeat scandal has led to the store withdrawing a product from its shelves. Now, frozen meatloaf has become the most recent food product to be removed from sale.
This relates to the supermarket’s Simply Roast Meatloaf which was produced from October last year up to January 2013, as recent testing confirmed that the food contained as much as 5per cent horse meat.
The news that the product contained horse DNA emerged on Tuesday, 13th March.
A spokesperson for the supermarket stated that the product was made in Northern Ireland by the firm Eurostock. It is believed there will be an investigation carried out with regards to the situation.
As many as 15 other products which were made by the same group were tested for horsemeat and none were found to contain traces of horse DNA.
In a statement, Tesco said: “Our investigation to thoroughly understand the source of the contamination has started and we will complete our investigation before deciding whether to continue using the supplier."
The horsemeat scandal has affected many groups, including Asda, Birds Eye, Findus and Iceland. The problem first arose at the start of 2013 when frozen beef burgers were found to contain traces of horsemeat.
