Teen singer Taylor Swift is to star in a new movie based on the heroine Supergirl, according to reports.
The 'Love Story' artist is apparently the hot favourite of movie bosses to play the female super hero.
Speculation that there will be a revival of the 'Supergirl' movie has named Swift as the one to play the Girl of Steel, despite the 1984 original being a critical and box office flop.
The 20-year-old star – whose music albums have sold over four million copies, making her the best-selling artist of 2009 in the US, recently made her film debut in the 2010 flick 'Valentines Day'.
An inside source said: "Hollywood is short of female heroes and the time is right for a new Supergirl.
"A number of young stars are being mentioned for the title role in a 'SupergirlÂ’ movie and possible TV spin-off and Taylor is top of that list. She has all the right elements to be a positive role model to young girls."
Helen Slater played the title character in the 1984 movie, which is a spin-off of the highly successful 'Superman' franchise.
Supergirl – alias Kara Zor-El –.first appeared in comic books in 1959.
