The US will offer military support to Syrian rebels, it has been confirmed.
President Barack Obama said the US is to offer military aid to the rebel groups in Syria following the conclusion that President Bashar al-Assad’s regime used chemical weapons, a spokesperson confirmed.
The US President’s Deputy National Security Adviser, Ben Rhodes, said: “The president has made a decision on providing more support to Syrian opposition. This includes military support.”
It has not been stated whether this includes arms as of time of writing.
Mr. Rhodes added: “Suffice it to say, it will be different in both scope and scale to what we were providing before.”
Based on reports, US officials, from the White House, approximated that between 100 and 150 people have been killed by chemical weapons.
The UN stated that 93,000 people have been killed as a result of the Syrian war.
The civil war began in early 2011 when there were protests against President Bashar al-Assad.
