A new implantable bionic lens promises people superhuman vision that is three times better than 20/20. The Ocumetric Bionic Lens is for both children and adults and was developed by optometrist Dr Garth Webb.
"This is vision enhancment that the world has never seen before,” Webb said.
"If you can just barely see the clock at 10 feet, when you get the Bionic Lens you can see the clock at 30 feet away."
The lens are designed to replace the eye’s natural lens and are injected using a saline-filled syringe, where it unravels within 10 seconds. The procedure is very similar to cataract surgery and last about eight minutes. The system, which is expected to be available in as little as two years, will go through clinical trial on animals and then blind human eyes.
Dr Webb has revealed that the system has already been presented to 14 ophthalmologists at a conference dedicated to cataracts and eye surgery. He said that the surgeons were so impressed that some volunteered to help with his clinical trials.
