Brandon Routh says playing Superman has helped him embrace his inner geek.
The 'Superman Returns' star claims being a huge fan of the comic-book character helped him play the Man of Steel far easier.
He explained: "There are a lot of "super-nerd" fans! That is awesome because I can be very nerdy, so I would never sell myself short on the fan base.
"I think Clark Kent is inherently what society would label 'nerdy'. But I don't play him that way. Any awkwardness or goofiness really comes out of his pure joy and excitement at being around Lois and other people."
Routh also admits he was nervous about getting anything wrong in the film because so many obsessive fans would notice.
He confessed: "There is no real way to conceive of how big this film could be. I aim to take it in my stride and have a good time.
"I do feel a responsibility to always keep the image of Superman as it should be. This includes future films."
