Hollyoaks actor Ricky Whittle has been arrested on suspicion of assault, it has been reported.

The Strictly favourite was reportedly involved in an incident with a Paparazzo in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to the Daily Mail, Whittle, 29, handed himself into St Helen's police station after he struck a photographer while attempting to drive home.

The star, who plays trouble copper Calvin Valentine, had been attending two co-stars' leaving party in Liverpool when his Dodge Ram pick-up truck apparently hit photographer Steve Farrel, 34.

A Merseyside police spokesperson said: "A 29-year-old man from the Billinge area of Greater Manchester has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody where he will be questioned by officers.

"The arrest follows an incident in which took place in Duke Street, Liverpool City Centre, in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident involved a collision with a male pedestrian."

Paramedics were reportedly called to the scene, where Farrel declined treatment, but he later went to hospital to be treated for minor injuries before being discharged.

Whittle is tipped to be a favourite to win this year's Strictly dancing competition.
