Andrew Strauss has been named as England's replacement for Nasser Hussein for this week's second Test against New Zealand.
The Middlesex captain replaces the retiring Nasser Hussain in England's 13-man squad for the match at Headingley.
Strauss made a superb debut at Lord's last week in his first Test appearance, replacing injured England captain Michael Vaughn.
Vaughn is hoping to prove his match fitness for Yorkshire in the Totesport League match against Scotland on Monday, following a knee injury picked up during training. He is expected to allow Strauss to open with Marcus Trescothick.
Chairman of selectors David Graveney said it will be up to Vaughan and coach Duncan Fletcher to choose who opens the batting.
Hussain retired from all cricket on Thursday, days after hitting a century to win the opening match of the Test series against New Zealand by seven wickets.
The second and third Tests are played back-to-back, with the next match starting at Trent Bridge a week on Thursday.
