The Rolling Stones played one of the biggest rock concerts of all time on Saturday (18.02.06) - performing to more than one million fans in Brazil.

The band, fronted by 62-year-old Mick Jagger, played a two-hour set on the Copacabana Beach, in Rio De Janeiro, blazing through 20 songs, including classics 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'.

During the show, Jagger ad-libbed comments in Portuguese, to the delight of the crowd.

At one point, he wore a white shirt with the Brazilian flag and the words "Brasil" and "Rio de Janeiro" emblazoned on it.

Veteran rockers Mick, Ronnie Wood, 58, Keith Richards, 62, and Charlie Watts, 64, played mostly older hits, but treated fans to a handful of songs from their latest album, 'A Bigger Bang'.

It was the first time the band had played for free in Brazil, where few people can afford to see top international acts.

The authorities in Rio brought in 6,000 police and 600 fire-fighters to control fans, some of whom had camped on the beach for a week to get a good view.

Despite playing for nothing, the group could earn as much as £10m from the concert, through proposed TV and movie rights.
