Thousands of people from all walks of life marked the summer solstice at Stonehenge. With some gathering at the nearby Avebury stone circle, attendees watched the sun rise at 4:52 BST and there was a carnival atmosphere among many revelers.
Wilthshire Police said that the event was a success and peaceful with several attendees taking pictures and videos of the event while some participated in yoga and International Yoga Day.
The summer solstice, which typically takes placed on 21 June, is celebrated for being the longest day of the year when the sun is at its maximum elevation and usually has a real party atmosphere. The event, which dates back thousands of years, is welcomed by participants wearing colourful costumes.
