Bradley Wiggins was named Sports Personality of the Year after getting 1.5million public votes, with Jessica Ennis being second and Andy Murray coming in third.
Bradley took the stage in a velvet suit to accept the award and said: “I'm just going to say thank you very much to those who picked up the phone and voted. Nan, the cheque's in the post – she must have pressed redial a hundred times.”
He joked: “There's a free bar round the back paid for by the BBC, so I hope you're all going to go to that.”
On the other hand, Seb Coe, who was introduced by David Beckham saying: “He has run the Olympics and won the Olympics”, was given the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other winners included Dave Brailsford (Coach of the Year), Usain Bolt (Overseas Sports Personality Of The Year), TeamGB and ParalympicsGB (Team of the Year), and Martine Wright who was given The Helen Rollason Award.
