While sports matches and events are held on a small scale on a seemingly daily basis, this year will see some major events and tournaments take place that will keep all sports fans on the edge of their seats. The sports calendar of the year for 2017 looks very exciting, and there is sure to be something of interest to all types of sports fans.
It usually takes some time for the sports calendar to get really exciting in any given year, but fans of American Football love the beginning of February. Sunday 5th of February is Super Bowl Sunday, and the 51st Super Bowl will take place between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. This is a day when Americans stop to enjoy their national sport, but gridiron fans around the world will watch the game in bars and from the comfort of their own home. NFL fans in the UK and Europe will stay up late to see the action unfold live.
The Grand National will be watched by millions
One of the biggest sporting events of the year takes place in spring with the Grand National. This horse racing event captures the mood and imagination of the nation, with many people taking an annual interest in horse racing with the Grand National. As usual, the event takes place in Aintree, with the 2017 race taking place on Saturday 8th of April. Excitement is already building for this race, and punters are looking for early betting tips for the Grand National race this year.
Some of the leading sports tournaments will come to a climax in June. The European football season will conclude on Saturday 3rd of June in Cardiff with the Champions League final. In the same month, US sports fans will get to see the finale of the NBA season and the Stanley Cup, which brings the ice hockey season to an end.
Of all the most eagerly anticipated sports tournaments taking place in 2017, the Wimbledon tennis tournament will be hard to beat. After Andy Murray triumphed at the south London tournament in 2016, a lot of UK tennis fans will be tuning in and attending to see if he can win again. However, 2017 has started in a fascinating manner for tennis fans with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer turning back the clock to reach the final of the Australian Open. The Swiss star claimed that tournament, and there will be a lot of interest in whether the old guard of tennis can return on the centre stage at the world-famous Centre Court.
Another hugely popular annual sporting event is the Tour De France, which welcomes the greatest cyclists and their background teams from all over the world. There is a wide range of cycling tests and activities during the event, which is nearly a month long, and it is one of the most intensive sporting challenges in the world.
2017 is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting and interesting sporting years, and even casual fans will find plenty to look forward to this year!
