The third Spider-Man film has entered production - even before the second instalment of the franchise has been released.

Media magazine Variety reports that Spider-Man 3 is already in development and set to hit screens in 2006 or 2007.

The first movie of the webslinger broke box office records and earned 440 million when it was released in 2002.

The second instalment, reportedly costing109 million to make, is being released globally on July 2nd.

According to Variety Sony confirmed its work on Spider-Man 3 - however there is yet to be a script, and the director and cast have not signed up.

The first two Spider-Man films star Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, and have been directed by Sam Raimi.

The first film has the record for the biggest box office takings for an opening weekend in the US - at 63 million.
