Canadian firm called Thoth has won a patent in the US for its idea of a space elevator which could one day zoom astronauts and tourists into orbit. It uses pneumatic pressure to proper a lift car to the edge of Earth’s atmosphere. The building would stand 20 km tall, more than 20 times the height of the tallest building in the world.
Dr. Brendan Quine, who invented the amazing building, said: “Astronauts would ascend to 20 km by electrical elevator. "From the top of the tower, space planes will launch in a single stage to orbit, returning to the top of the tower for refueling and reflight."
Caroline Roberts, Thoth President and CEO, said her firm's design could revolutionise space travel.
"Landing at 12 miles above sea level will make space flight more like taking a passenger jet,” she said.
